BEING A MEMBER

download-1_edited.png
UCLA undergraduate students participating in CityLab have the opportunity to be a CityLab volunteer or enroll to get upper division units.

Volunteers: Volunteers are active members of Citylab, assisting with laboratory experiments, completing member duties, and attending sessions and general meetings to remain active in the club.

Enrollees: Enrollees are members who will add MCDB 192B (a 2 unit, letter grade, upper division course to their study list). In order to enroll in MCDB 192B, you must present at one session. Presentations are typically around 20-30 minutes and involve a game-like activity you will create for the high school students attending. If you choose to enroll in MCDB 192B, the grade received counts toward your cumulative GPA but does not satisfy any upper division course requirement. Repeat enrollment is allowed for one additional quarter, but two quarters of MCDB 192B are the maximum allowed.

Prerequisite for MCDB 192B

Sophomore standing or higher and completion of (or concurrent enrollment in) LS7A.

THEMED PRESENTATIONS

Members create animated presentations which draw analogies between aspects of pop culture and scientific topics. In doing so, science topics that may be difficult to grasp are made more accessible and fun.

MODULES

Modules are short films that are written, filmed, and edited by CityLab members (past and present). They introduce a storyline behind every session's lab experiment, presentations, and activities.
